What is a crimping die and why does it matter?
The die shapes hose and fitting as the press crimps. Every hose diameter and fitting type needs a suitable die, and die diameter fixes the size after crimping. The same press runs different diameters by changing the die set.

How do I ask for dies for brake, air-conditioning and steering hoses?
With MT 11, MT 12 and MT 30 you can crimp air-conditioning, steering and brake hoses. Fitting and hose sizes of these hoses can differ from hydraulic jobs, so a die request should give hose type, inner diameter, fitting size and the fitting maker’s crimp size.

Brake hose assemblies are safety parts in vehicles; standards such as SAE J1401 define them. Please also state the standard you work to in your die request.
What should I write in a die request?
The press the die will be used on: MT 11, MT 12, MT 30, MT 35 or MT 55.
Hose type and inner diameter; say if it is a brake, air-conditioning or steering hose.
Fitting type, size and, if possible, the fitting label or drawing.
The form wanted, for example a 90-degree elbow fitting.
How many pieces or sets you want.
Which measures matter when choosing a die?
Die choice rests on three measures: hose type and outer diameter, fitting type and the target size after crimping. The fitting maker gives the crimp diameter for each hose and fitting combination in a table, and the die is chosen for that diameter. On the press side, values such as maximum opening and master die length limit which die fits; for example MT 30 has a maximum opening of 200 mm and MT 35 a master die length of 150 mm.

On MT 30, dies for 3/16″–4″ hoses with 90-degree elbow fittings on both ends are standard on the machine, and skiving dies are standard for 3/8″–2″.
Is buying a die on its own enough?
A die works inside a press; values such as the press’s maximum opening, master die length and die rack affect fit. Tell us your press model and we will check the fit together.
